Backup configuration

I have tried to use the backup configuration from the webadmin interface. Cant seem to figure out where the backup is saved. When I try to browse for backup container file it wants to look on the client machine for the file.

Where is the documentation for this process?

    documentation for this process is not complete at the online-help...

    backup files are saved on the client and loaded for restore from the client - so you must store before load a backup on your client machine

    Thank you for the quick response, but where on the client does it store the backup?

    If you take the default setting - Comment - and click start - where is the backup file saved? What is its name?

    I can not browse to the saved backup configuration to restore it if I cant find it.

    save backup:

    1. make comment
    2. press start
    3. wait for "Backup has been created successfully:" 
    4. press again start
    5. select a file on your client and press ok (or something else on your file-browser dialog)

    restore backup:

    1. browse your client for a backup file
    2. select a file on your client and press ok (or something else on your file-browser dialog)
    3. press start
    4. wait for "Backup Information"
    5. press again start


    thats all...
    on which step is your problem?

    I did all of that, but when I browse to saved file (C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\index.pl) and click  I get a Microsoft Internet Explorer error "This is not a permissible file name!"

    any suggestions?

    Hi sam,

    actually there must be a problem saving the backupfile.

    A normal backup process looks like that.

    1. Go to the Section System/Backup
    - A page comes up giving you the chance to export and import backup.

    2. Enter a Comment and click "Start"
    - A new page appears telling "Backup has beencreated Succesfully"

    3. Click on the "Start"-Button to initiate the download process.
    - A Windows Dialog Screen appears with the title "Filedownload"  - index.pl from your Firewall ip adress.

    4. Choose "Save this programm to disk" and press ok
    - A Windows File Dialog Screen opens with the title "Save As".
    - In the filename Field is a predefined name.
    - For example: backup_20001222_140952
    - in the Save as type Field you see ".abf Type"

    5. Press "Save" to save this backupfile to you harddrive.

    Thats it.

    In there is the complete configuration of Astaro Security Linux.

    Now lets seek for the problem.

    Which step is not like described here ?
    Which version of IE or Netscape or ... do you use ?
    Which version of Astaro Security Linux do you use ?

    Hi,

    You just have to click 'Open....' in the first dialog, then 'Save to...' in the next.

    Then you problem should be solved at least it works for me.
