Trigger Auto Channel / Channel Selection for Central managed APX?

I only found a manual Scan for Wireless Neigbors in Central, hidden in the Sites menu.

Can I somehow trigger the AP to chose the best free channel NOW?

There are situations that are optimal for this, e.g. an empty building with no WiFi users.

This is what they do automatcally some times:

  • I learned to distrust auto-channel-like abilities and also DFS channels, so now I use Wifi Explorer and walk around a bit to determine what bands I want to use and then manually set them. This is in a very dense (apartment) environment, and it's possible, I guess, that channel choices might change over time, but I figure that if I park on a channel it'll hopefully help to discourage someone else (including their auto-channel) from adopting it.

Looking forward to moving to 6 GHz channels. Have sworn off 5 GHz DFS channels: I now know the three that get hit a LOT -- about 5 miles from an airport -- but even if you choose ones that are not conflicted, the smallest change to your AP that requires bringing the 5GHz down and then back up will take 3-4 minutes because of the DFS pre-scan. I'd rather be more crowded and have near-instant parameter changes.

  • thanks for your answers. usually it ends up in some APs set manually, mostly those on the edge.
