Webpages SLOW to load

Hi all,

My users in a remote office are complaining that webpages are extremely slow to start loading.  From their web browser they type in a site address like cnn.com and it takes at least 30 seconds before the page even starts loading.  They have a 80Mb/20Mb cable connection to the internet which should be plenty fast.  Not sure what is causing this sudden slow performance.  They have an XG125 firewall and I have disabled ALL scanning and filters and it has not made a difference at all.  They were on SFOS 16.05.6 MR-6 and rolling back to 16.05.5 MR-5 made no difference.  I thought maybe going to 16.05.6 MR-6 might help but it did nothing. Problem is happening on all computers in that office.  I am able to remote into a server on-site and run speed tests which look fine but it doesn't explain why things are slow to start.

Extra bit of info... we've only been live with Sophos in our 4 offices for one month and this is only happening in one office.

I did open a case on SophServ (Case 7474453) but I haven't gotten a response yet.

Any ideas on what I can do?

Mike

  • Just a thought, Under System Services / Traffic Shaping Services, check that you don't have to much guaranteed bandwidth allocated to each user as this will mean that the system reserves bandwidth for each user, leaving little or nothing available for use.

I had this problem and everything works fine now that I have set the default to 10KBps to each client.

Why is it that the IT world assumes that if you speak English then it is American, not English.
English did not come from America, that's why it's not called American!!!

  • I've tried with traffic shaping both enabled and disabled and it makes no difference.

  • Hi,

check your DNS performance at the site.

  • Problem ended up being in Configure > Network > DNS I entered internal AD DNS server addresses before I put in a public DNS address like 8.8.8.8.  Once I changed the first entry to a public DNS server things worked quick again.  Not sure why that would make any difference especially since I have my internal DNS servers entered first at my other 3 sites.
