Avira AV and Sophos AV are not updating their definitions since May 16th, while reporting, update 'succes'. No errors are logged.

it is "normal". Sometimes AV engines are not updating even from 3/4 days. See tomorrow if the signature is updated.
I even opened a feature request. For me it should be a basic behavior.

Mmmmm, I see the same update frequency on my Cyberoam UTM, never noticed it before.
On the other hand, my Avira endpoint protection software updates its definition several times a day. So why not follow that frequency, especially since the Sophos XG is the first line of defense?

in a Next Generation Firewall a packet is checked once against all the possible Engines. The AV we are using is simple and do not have to communicate with other engines while on a NGFW the process is more complicated. XG is still a young product and I really hope the next release will improve even updates frequency. I agree with you that does not make sense a first line of defense updates not everyday.
