Ip to Hostname

Dear Members,

I have been using cyberoam for a long time now and have just downloaded the sophos utm (software os on intel hardware).

I have done all the required configurations as required (policies, multiple gateway, site to site vpn with failover etc) and its working fine.

the only issue that is bugging me is :

1. the appearance of : ips instead of hostnames (internal lan) in the reports and live traffic view

2. the appearance of : ips instead of resolved domain names (wan traffic) in the reports and live traffic view.

I have read through the best practices and forum posts but not being able to get it through.

A brief of my setup is as below :

internal lan > dhcp & dns & routing by sophos on lan ip 192.168.101.1 > internet (static ip)

all internal device dns are set to 192.168.101.1

sophos dns is configured to use open dns 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220 for additional protection as offered by opendns.

I request your help in this matter .

Regards,

Partha

  • The explanation I was given before is that host names can change for any corresponding IP and in order to retain reports true to each IP, the IPs are what is reported. Not sure if that is in fact true but it seemed to make some sense.

  • Hi,

That might be ok for internal lan but what for the WAN ? I can't determine the domain visited based on IP.

There are often so many domains hosted on a shared ip.

Wonder whats happening in other test environments. I've never faced this peculiar issue with cyberoam though..
