UTM and XG home, can I run both ?

So I want to setup and try XG on another box before I consider moving away from UTM home. I read that the XG will convert you UTM 9 to XG serial, but I think that was mainly for the none home users, as when I did the download it sent me a registration that is different than my home license for UTM but I haven't actually set it up, so it may convert me when I go through the setup.

That said, could I run XG at the same time as UTM so I can test them out, before going to XG, or since there the free home versions, will I be able to run both on different vlans / subnets to do comparison etc.

  • Romeo,

when you downlod the XG, a unique serial number is generated and its related license. Downloading the XG home edition does not mean that the UTM Home license expires. You can have both at the same time. Links are different (MyUTM and secure.sophos.com).

You can install the XG and see if it fits your needs before moving definetly to it. At the moment the conversion from UTM to XG is not already possible and you need to wait until this summer.

For example, in my case, I had UTM at home and moved to XG formatting the device and configure the entire network from scratch.
Keep the UTM configurationa and if you do not feel confident with XG, at least you can go back to UTM uploading the configuration.
