Question About APs (standalone function on fail over connection with central XG - remote)

Hello,

some questions related to Sophos APs.

1) What about XG as WLAN controller and Web Protection active remote (central site) ans Sophos Access Point on remote site (xDSL connection using switch port from modem/router) what happen if connection got down? (local internet xDSL continue working) Sophos APs will continue working wifi standalone remotely (without a XG connection)  with less features of cause ? at lease WIFI connection with no WEB Filter active….?

2) if answer about question is NOT. Any future release to solve this situation? to work as standalone AP (on fail situation - normal situation is XG connectiions (Web Protection active) with remote (via xDSL internet connection) Sophos Acces Point) as others wifi providers.

Thanks in advanced.

  • Oscar,

the AP works only if the XG is reachable. They exchange information and XG controls the traffic. AP cannot work as standalone.

I think it will never work as a standalone AP because from the beginning the project was born in this direction with advantages and disadvantages. Buy a third-party AP and use it as standalone or even better buy a small XG at remote office.
