hardware connections advice for novice

Hello everyone

I would like to make this enquiry for you to comment on.

I have downloaded the xg software ready to install to a space intel pc tower to act as the “device “ that has two network cards , as per the requirement.

Could someone please give me some guidance as to how all the components are interconnected , as I cannot find a guide to do so.I appreciate this would not be a problem for an IT specialist ,but as this is for my personal use at home the connection options are beyond my experience.

At present I have equipment wise :-

Two end user Linux pc's , one with Elementary os and one with Mint 17.1

intel duo pc 2gb ram as device for software

Zyxel VMG8924 B10A four 1 g port modem router The two pc's at the modem are currently networked through it.

I suspect I may need some extra equipment to connect the device ,as it must be an in out device, but I have no idea which of the network cards would be in or out ON THE DEVICE, or if it is the first device in the chain from the modem, then its out put feeds a another hub to supply the two pc’s.

Or is it a case of all connections are connected to the 4 ports on the modem as a switch, if I need not use any more hardware ?

Also is there and software to be loaded onto the end user pc’s ?

This may all seem pretty basic to many of you, but to me it all new territory.

Many thanks in anticipation of replies.

  • Ron,

install XG directly on the computer like an O.S. and proceed with the installation.

Depend on your connection, you can use the XG as the mdem and buy a cheap switch where the XG lan connect to and all other your internal computer are connected either.
