Install XG-105W

I'm new to Sophos products.  I previously had a Prosecure device.  I get the device hooked up to my DSL modem and log into the admin page, but all I see is basic setup and license.  What now?  I tried to syncronize my license, but it appears I cannot get outside.  I have the basic setting set to DHCP, but appears it's not communicating to the DSL modem like the Prosecure box did.  I do have some moderate computer and networking skills, but I'm no expert at this.  Documentaion on installation of this devise seems very poor versus others I'm used.  Can someone help me?  I can call Sophos support as I have bought the 3 year protect package, but I thought maybe there are others out there like me that could benefit.

  • DanMiller,

    we will help you!
Setup the XG as router, one inteface will have 172.16.16.16 Ip address(LAN) and the other one will be in dhcp mode (WAN).
So make sure you cable the XG in the correct way. Plug-in a computer inside the XG lan card and try pinging the Ip 172.16.16.16. For WAN, make sure you lease IP address have leased a new IP to XG box. Once you are connected, you can synch your license and start using XG, https://172.16.16.16:4444

    Enjoy.

    Luk
  • Update to my issue: Strangest thing. I was using Firefox 42.0 to login to the admin. All I got was the very basic info page and could get no further. After my post I tried it again with Chrome and I got the Network config wizard. Walked me right through the whole setup. I just need to sync my license now. I won't get to try that until this evening have a meeting. Thanks, I guess I just needed to talk to someone.
  • It's always the weird little errors that make the whole thing crash down! Glad you were able to resolve it :)
