XG Firewall for Home

So we have been using UTM for our company for a while and loved it.  I wanted to try out XG here at home on an old server I have.  It's an HP ProLiant DL360 G6, 4GB of RAM and plenty of HDD storage.

I download the ISO, the install completes just fine and I'm prompted with the login screen.  I take the cable from Eth 1 (or Eth 0 for any Linux users out there) and plug it into my laptop and give myself a static IP of 172.16.16.100 / 255.255.255.0 but can not ping nor get to https://172.16.16.16:4444

Edit:  I have tried both NIC ports.

I have re-installed 4 times with the same result.  I get no errors during the install that indicate it's not picking up the adapters, and at the login screen it even says there are 2 network adapters, so I know it sees it.

It seems crazy to me that we can't login from here and do some basic stuff like check the IP.  Right now I'm dead in the water since everything I have tried just doesn't work.  Am I missing something obvious?

I got this working on a VM without any issues so I'm guessing it may be hardware related - NIC's not supported maybe?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    It may just need time. I did the same thing, including reinstalling. I finally realized it just took time for it to come up. I haven't figured out whether the delay is after starting up or just taking awhile to notice I plugged the network cable in.

    I had read on here that someone had to wait up to 4 hours before it came online. However, after leaving it on all night long and still not being able to access it this morning I'm thinking that may not be the case here unfortunately.

    I think the console needs to show some helpful information, especially if there are going to be issues like this. Detected ports, IP addresses, and whether or not a cable is plugged in would be nice.

    If it's something besides a delay, I may not be able to help you, but I'll try to find out what it is I'm waiting for after I install the software and get back to you.

    Thanks Scott. I just did another install after changing a couple of things like disk size (like that would make a difference but you never know) and some changes in the BIOS but same results. I think I'm going to just give up on Sophos completely as it shouldn't be this difficult to get working, especially when I am not exactly your 'average consumer' IT user.

    For now I think I'll keep my ASA 5505 in place here at the house and keep looking for alternatives that give similar features to the Sophos software.

    I do think they pushed this to GA too early. Having to log in to the Web UI to accept the EULA before being able to do anything is absurd.. it makes troubleshooting things like this impossible. If I could login to the console I could see if the nic has been given an IP or if it's even been detected correctly etc.

    I had a look at the specs for your dl360 g6 and I suspect the problem is the HP ethernet controller is unknown or a very rare device. Try dropping a recent intel or 3com or broadcom dual nic card in and see what happens.
    Even a the UTM home licence has to be better than an ASA unless of course you are extremely wealthy and can afford the exorbitant charges.
