Can't get email notifications to work.

Anyone who can help me figure out why my email notifications won't work?

I'm using the same email config that I use on other servers and they work just fine.

I'm using Microsoft hosted Exchange, and I am using :-

Mail Server : smtp.office365.com Port : 587

Username my usual

Password my usual

Connection/Security (I've tried all options!)

Certificate - I've tried Appliance Certificate and None

I get an error saying failed to connect to mail server. Do I need to create a rule or something? I have the Webfilter off and I have the Application filter set to Allow All, but I also set that to None too just in case.

  • You have posed a very interesting question. Nothing shows what ports I am actually sending on. Receiving yes.

I had to disable smtps, kept breaking my wife's iphone mail account.

Stuff I know about mail on my devices

    Incoming imap 993

outgoing is 465 on some devices, I think I defaulted all to that or left the mail system on mac book pro, iphone and ipad to auto manage.

The mail accounts have stopped objecting since moving to 465, but some were new setups of old accounts.

Yes, I know, not logical, but then some parts of XG aren't either.

Just tried to find my outgoing test  message in the mail, nothing there, looks like it went out on 443 and does not pass the mail firewall rule. So very confused about what I had thought I setup.

Checked every setting again and each account has ssl enabled for both incoming and outgoing.
