Zero Day protection and mail scanning

Hi folks,

a series of questions about zero day scanning and mail scanning.

Background. All my previous Sophos firewall licences have included mail scanning and that also includes the XG115W.

Now, currently the XGS118 with an extreme package does not include mail scanning which is a seperate subscription, the trial licence has mail scanning until early February 2025.

Mail scanning was dropped from the standard XGS package when XGSs were released.

Q1/. Does zero day scan mail messages

Q2/. if no mail scanning function in zero day, what determines spam messages and how they are handled?

Q3/. If no mail scanning in zero day why happens to included virus etc?

Until now there has not been any messages in zero day regarding spam or included doubtful links?

I will be subscribing to the mail package for the XGS118 because I find ISP/RSP anti-spam scanning not reliable, so what happens to a small business?

Ian

  • Email Protection is required to enable Zero Day Protection for Email.

Zero Day Protection subscription in SFOS is for ALL Modules, which supports and have a valid subscription: Like Web and Email.

We removed Email and Webserver Scanning from the bundle, as the movement in IT right now is more towards Cloud Based Servers and services, which made Webserver Protection and Email Scanning unneeded for most customers. So we moved it to an a la card module, if you need it, it is still there. Additionally Email Protection is something, we highly recommend in Central to be used, if possible - As Sophos Central Email supports new next gen technologies.
