XGS116 and Starlink

Are there any known issues with XGS and Starlink connections? We deployed a Starlink this weekend as a replacement for a traditional satellite service, but found that after a few minutes the connection stops passing traffic, with WAN link manager reporting the link as down. I've tried changing the monitoring IP to 8.8.8.8 but no avail.

Just out of pure luck, I stumbled across jury-rig a method for keeping the connection active by using 'system diagnostics arp ping' to send a constant ping from the firewall to the Starlink gateway. It has to be the arp ping, a normal ping command will not work. This means keeping an open console session to the firewall from the site server, so I need a real solution.

The firmware on the XGS is older (I inherited this install) so I'm scheduling to get that updated.

  • Nice to know about the ARP ping and requesting it from support.

I experienced something similar when upgrading from SFOS 19.0 to 19.5, but was able to keep the WAN Link Manager happy by swapping out the Starlink Gateway IP for 1.1.1.1 given that this DNS resolver consistently has the lowest latency of the Public DNS resolvers.
