TAR import fails

Hi folks,

I have read the various articles any getting any closer to a solution.

https://community.sophos.com/sophos-xg-firewall/f/discussions/136793/export-edit-import-selective-configuration

I have created a new tar file after editing the exported one in MAC tar, I have tried various naming formats but to no avail.

Thoughts please.

Ian

I tried exporting a file, then using MAC tar creating a new file which I tried to import and it failed. Not good.

  • Hi LuCar,

yes, that loaded okay, interestingly I missed adding the interfaces to the update process which I completed after the import of the file you provided.

So, the issue is because I moved the extracted file from under the exported tar file.

All are now working only when the other devices start to renew will I expect to see errors.

    Thank you for you help.

  • I know this is slightly unhelpful but IIRC the issue is the directories.

If you open a .tar file just exported you will see it first has a ./ directory and then inside that the entities.xml.

I think the import needs the same structure.  Though I don't happen to know how to create a new tar file like that.  I always use 7zip which has the ability to edit the text file in place and re-tar the file the same way.
