Appropriate way to create a free cental account without trial licenses

How do I create a Sophos Central account for a customer, who only needs to manage their XG Firewalls via Central Management. ?

I want to avoid starting a trial account because after the trial licenses expire, it will create error messages and messes up our sophos partner dashboard for ever.

is there a proper way to create a central management account only for XG management?

  • As far as i know, a central trial should be removed after 2-3 months from your alert page. Can you confirm or deny this?

If you start a Central Trial and add a firewall to it, will the trial expiration stay longer than 3 months?

there is no other way to do this expect MSP.

  • unfortunately not.

here is an example with trial licenses from 30.03.2020 march, taken today 03.11.2020.

Even Customer care denies removing the expired licenses.

Their answer was something like "we are not allowed to remove expired licenses, because otherwise, the customer could do another free 30d eval".

looks like it's their way to keep track of evals... what ever.

any plans to remove this limitation in the future?    I can imagine that many partners have the same problem.

  • Actually if you apply "one" license for whatever Central product, all other expired trials will disappear. You can see this in your screenshot. None of your Accounts with a valid or expired license has a trial expiration.

I fully agree with you, if you run a Central Account without asset, this looks not as good as it could. This is because CM has somesort of special place in Central. It does not have a Asset (License).

But the "workaround" could be to "sell" one CFR block license to this customer. This would enable the customer to see the CFR advanced License and he can use the advanced CFR features. It will also remove all expiration flags of this account. See the price list for the 100 GB block of CFR.

Moving forward, this could be improved in the future. I will forward your feedback.

Personally i would follow up with my CFR feedback. This is a win-win situation for customer/partner.
