How do I block using regex in XG?

AFAIK it can't be done with regex, but you can achieve your goal. 
I've just tested it and it works.

Step 1.
Protect > Web > Categories: add a categorie like this:

Step 2.
Protect > Web > User activities: Create a new activity like this:

Step 3.
 Protect > Web > Policies: edit / create a policy ie.:

I've tested this on you're URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unconquered_(1940_play)
I can view this page but can't edit it.

Yes it does work. However, I do consider it a workaround at the moment, rather than a resolution. One issue this will cause is blocking editing on other instances of the MediaWiki software (used by a number of sites) as well as Wikipedia.

At the moment, that shouldn't be an issue for me - but it may become one in the future. It'd be better if the XG system allowed blocking by regex. I shall post something on the Sophos Ideas site about it.

There is currently no better solution than I can think of.

RegEx is not supported in either Custom Categories or URL Groups.

The use case for it, how many customers need it, is very low.

Hope you can consider to put regex even for web filtering.

Regex allows a better way to catch proper urls, sub domain.
