  • Hi,

it is possible to install a home licence on your device, the wifi should work and from memory you will only be able to use either 2.4ghz or 5ghz bands but not both.

    What model 105w is it?

You will not be able to upgrade to v18 because the xg105w does not come with sufficient memory. Some forum members have upgraded theirs but that then breaks your support from Sophos.

I am not sure what functions from the home licence will install on a xg105w because the business licence does come with all features.

  • Hi ,

  • Hi Alexandre,

I failed mind reading as a IT support analyst, failed even worse with my wife and drivers who indicate to turn right, but turn left so why should I succeed with you when you ask about an XG105W?

  • Hi ,

Please apologize, I just reread my first post, I actually made a mistake.
    thank you so much

I should have written SG instead of XG, because I'm talking about a device belonging to the UTM group

  • Hi Alexandre,

I have reviewed the hardware specifications for the SG105w rev 3 and they are the same as the XG105w.

What I am not clear on is the WIFI capabilities.

  • Hi,

i have tested this with an SG105w and a 4GB RAM Module.

YES, you can install XG Home at the SG105w rev 3.

You NEED to wipe the SSD inside. I recommend , Darik’s Boot and Nuke.
Or you could just boot a Ubuntu and install a Server Edition (this will wipe the disk).

Then you can install with an external DVD drive, after a while you will a have XG Home installed.

BUT, you will never get WiFi working with XG Home.

Sophos limited the XG Home Linux System and removed the WiFi Drivers.

If you install UTM Home, WiFi will would (havent tried latest release)!

I even installed XG appliance in a Virtual Box and emulated the SG105W Hardware (BIOS, MAC, Vendor ID, etc...)

Inside this XG (Virtual Box) all WiFi Drivers where loaded, but the Virtual Box NIC´s aren´t support at all and Virtual Box has nos WiFi Drivers.

  • Hi ,

    Thanks for you reply .

If i want to have wifi .

    I can use a supply router :

    TL-WR940N of Tp link brand

So i connect the wan port of this supply router on The Lan port of SG105w

    or other configuration ??.

The router do not propose bridge configuration and route mode unfortunatly .

    Best reguards .

  • Hi Alexandre,

you can use the TP-link as an AP or you can buy a Sophos AP which can be managed by the XG.

You would connect the LAN port of the TP-Link to the LAN of the XG, put a dummy address in the WAN interface of the TP-Link and use the XG as the gateway address.
