apple iPhone issue using mail

I am using my iPhone over the internal network to speed up mailtraffic.

I get since 2 month a problem with the access to my external mail servers. A few days ago I recognized that this problem will only happens if i am linked with the internal network.

The reason seems to be that i check the mail traffic and there also the imaps, smtps and pops.

Sophos XG works as a kind of "Certificate Proxy" with the problem, that the iPhone doesn't accept the new certificate from sophos.

Any idea how to solve without undoing the "IMAPs, ..." checking.

Thanks
Wolfgang

  • Hi Wolfgang,

the issue is that the iPhone, iPad and Macs do not like the XG CA as it is not pinning compatible.

Now, I have SMTPS scanning on the iPhone, the iPad and the MAC, but get errors each time but mail does flow.

I have had to disable the IMAPS scanning because all Apple devices fail after a short while. I am using v18 EAP3, but had the same issue with v17.5.9.

We are waiting for a fix from Sophos and it is getting a bit frustrating that it is taking so long.

  • Hi Ian,

thanks for the reply. I had a few issues and i found a post about macOS with a similar issue. It helped me to find a solution (temperary).

It seems that if you using in Mail the mta mode the SMTPs, IMAPs and POPs doesn't make a sense.

The conclusion is the same which you preferred. Disabling of the malware scanning of ...s.

I want to try the version v18 to check it, but in this case i don't have to concentrate me on this point.

    Thanks and regards
    Wolfgang
