Daily Restart of Services?

So I started monitoring my SMC service and noticed that everyday at 4am (PDT) it stops, then starts up again about 5 minutes later.  It's been doing this since we installed it over a year go it seems.    Is this normal?

    Hi jdobiash,

    yes, the shutdown of the service at 4:00 am and the restart at 4:05 am is normal.

    The setup creates to scheduled tasks to handle this.
    During this restart temp files are removed and the log files are moved.
    Furthermore, you can schedule a backup of the SMC database during that time.
