Amend FQDN / url / domain

Hi all,

Apologies in advance for the n00b post. i did have a check around, but couldn't find much on this.

I've just installed the components, amended firewall rules etc, but I don;t seem to be able to amend the default url it game me test.smc.xxxxxx.com I did not set this up myself. When i went through the config wizard this part was greyed out. Is there a config file I can change this in somewhere?

So, I have an external ip, which resolves to mobile.xxxxxx.co.uk which then pushes traffic to sophosmc.xxxxxxx.ad (the internal fqdn). I'm unsure where the .com comes from!

Thanks for reading if you got this far!

  • Hi Jay,

the URL which is displayed in the Configuration Wizard comes from the License.sql you have received from Sophos.

This license file should always contain the external URL of your SMC server. The URL will be part of the basic iOS profiles which are send out during the registration of a device. That is the URL the iOS devices try to report the status to.

Unfortunately, the URL within the license file could not be changed by you. You would have to contact your Sophos sales person to get a new license file.

    Best regards

    Stefan

  • Stefan,

Just to add to this, we are new to SMC and also found out about the URL AFTER the installation. Upon talking to Sophos technical support they advised me that the URL should have been requested from us by Sophos PRIOR to the creation of the License.SQL file.

I think a lot more thought has to go into this, and the other aspects such as creating a CA signed cert etc.

Sorry to hijack the post, but it seems that with the umpteen different installation documents for SMC there are vital peices of information missing.
