Whatsapp Backup

Hello,

Im struggling to understand the setup, we use Sophos Central to to manage our mobile Devices.. its set up to comply with GDPR.

My colleagues really love their Whatsapp.. and its a nightmare if the history gets lost. I'm now wondering if there is any way to do so? On iOS Whatsapp works but has no access to the users phone book, however Chat Backup is disabled in the settings, and managed by Sophos not able to be turned on.

What would be the correct way to do so? I tried asking Bard but it said I need to create a "Backup Policy" which Im not very certain does exist..?

    Thank you for reaching out to the Sophos Community Forum. 

    Settings within WhatsApp will need to be controlled using the "Managed Configuration" options for the app. Looking into the configuration options available for WhatsApp currently, backup configuration is not currently possible. 

    You can find managed configuration options under: Apps > Android > WhatsApp Messenger > Edit

    You can see an example of what this will look like by using this navigation with the "Microsoft Outlook" app. 

    Could you clarify if some of the settings defined within Sophos Mobile are preventing you from configuring backups on the local app, or is this a general inquiry?

    I did check these options, but it appears that for iOS these options are entirely different.

    I am looking for the option to set up managed apps for iOS. 

    I can not enable: Settings -> iCloud - > WhatsApp 
    This is for apps using iCloud, so they can write their Backup and stuff.

    Right now, for WhatsApp, which is managed, I can NOT turn on the integrated Backup feature, therefore the precious chats get lost if the number or phone gets changed. I can't find any setting inside Central to change this, allowing WhatsApp to use iCloud.

  • Are the iOS devices enrolled using Apple Business Manager, or are they enrolled with Sophos Mobile Control differently? 

    iCloud backups may not work because the iCloud account on the mobile devices will instead point to the organization, as opposed to a single user's iCloud account.
