[MCMDMErrorDomain] Please log in to your iTunes Store account

Hello Community, we distribute iOS devices (different models, >iOS 12.x) without a Apple ID to some of our employees. SMC app will installed automatically after DEP Enrollment wizard. VPP is also configured in SMC with automatically assign VPP licence to the iOS device. Also automatically VPP App Updates are activated.

The users can install different apps (free&b2b) from the SMC App store.

For some devices, the user will be prompted to sign in to iTunes to manage and install apps from SMC (see picture below -> german language settings). It seems that this message box is always displayed when an installed iOS app has a new update available and SMC tries to update it automatically. 

After checking the log files on our SMC Server (on Premise), we found the following entries in the iosmdm.log:

We are using SMC Server On premise with latest update installed (8.6.5).

What we have already tested:

  • Clear VPP cache
  • Renew sToken in SMC
  • Generate new sToken with other managed Apple ID

  • so you have a list of apps on your VPP account and when users request to install these from your enterprise app store they are promoted for itunes login? if so can be a couple of things, the device isnt supervised or you have run out of VPP Licences for the selected app. check the apps your trying to install to make sure you have available licences, also check to make sure the device is in the higher level of management.

  • yes, we have published different apps from our VPP account in the integrated SMC app store. All devices are in supervised state and managed by SMC. Enough licenses are available. The assignments of all licenses to the devices are also displayed correctly in SMC. The installation of an app works without problems and without the login prompt.

    As previously described, it seems that this login prompt will appear if there is a new update for an installed app available.

     

     

     

  • never seen this behaviour and we have over 2k apple devices. are all apps shown as managed on the affected devices?

  • yes, all apps shown as managed on the affected devices (see screenshot from an affected iPad). 

    As you can see, version 14.7 of the "FileBrowserBiz" app is currently installed on the device. In official Apple App Store version 14.8 is the latest version of this app. According to the log file, SMC tries to update the app to version 14.8 and fails. For other devices, we can also see in the log file that SMC is trying to update an app and fails.
