Sophos detected a Coinhive Javascript crypto coin Malware that needs to be manually removed.

It says i need to manually remove it but How To does not pop-out anything.

the url is pointing to /Users/w****/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/WebKitCache/Version 11/Records/CF.../Resource/4F3.....-blob

Anyone knows what this means and

Many thanks for your help

  • Coinhive is a type of crypto mining that is hosted on websites, it means when you are visiting that website they are using your CPU to mine for Crypto currency (ie BitCoins). This basically means your computer will be running slower and your electricity bill will probably go up.

The fix is don't visit that website.

Here is an article of when the website Pirate Bay started doing this: https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2017/09/20/pirate-bay-hits-users-cpus-with-secret-cryptocurrency-mining/

    Allan,

It means that user w**** (whoever that is) has something in their Safari cache.

Log into their account.  Click on Safari.  At the top left of the screen, click on Safari > Clear History...  In the pop-up screen, change Clear to "all history", and then, click Clear History.  Again at the top left of the screen, Click on Safari > Quit Safari.  This should clear their entire Safari cache.

*They will need to log back into all websites and services they were logged into before.*
