Virus

On my MacBook Air, it says that the virus OSX/Geonei was detected, but can only be removed manually. I went to download the link I was taken to by Sophos. When it wants to open, the file says open with TextEdit. I'm wondering what tool should I have, besides the Sophos I have on my computer now to manually delete this virus?

Hey Russell.

Was a file path also displayed when you got the detection? It might be that the file is actually within a Time Machine backup which is why we can't get at it to clean it up (but thankfully it shouldn't be able to execute from within Time Machine).

We've a video over here which will show you how to do a manual clean up of something stuck in a Time Machine backup:
