Manual Removal of DLNow Application on MAC

Hi. SOPHOS alerted me to manually remove the application but directed me to the Windows virus removal tool. How can I removed this application?

  • Hi Debra,

That does sound like a fail on our part, can you share a screenshot or information about where you saw this message please.

  • Hi Peter.

I was kind of mislead by the alert. The program was in fact Adobe creative cloud pkg that was still in a backup file. I deleted the backup file. But I don't think it would have been a problem and don't really know why it caused the Alert. Is it just because it is an executable?

    Thanks for your reply

    Debra

  • Hi Debra,

The software DLNow is detected by Sophos as an "Adware or PUA". PUA stands for Potentially Unwanted Application. It isn't a detection of something malicious, more of a warning about something you might not want on your machine. Sometimes this can be because it could be used maliciously despite that not being the manufacturers intention or something less malicious like they have a tool bar bundled in with their installer.

You can disable Adware and PUA detection's, but I recommend you keep it enabled and instead when you see a detection like this, in the quarantine you will have an option to authorize that software, this would stop detection's for it again.

  • Hi PeterM,

How can we flag a invalid page on sophos?

The Site Debra mentioned ( https://www.sophos.com/en-us/threat-center/threat-analyses/adware-and-puas/DLNow.aspx ) lists the infection as a Mac / OS X infection but only give remove instructions for Windows ( it does not infect Windows ).

    Regards,
    Bohdan
