Using Heartbeat with Sophos Central Wireless not possible

Hello everyone,

For months now, I, along with Sophos Support, have been trying to solve the following problem.

We want to use Sophos Wireless in combination with Sophos Mobile and Sophos XDR (or the Sophos Mobile App with Heartbeat) as advertised by Sophos.

This should ensure that devices without a Heartbeat cannot connect to the WLAN or are blocked in the WLAN. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be possible.

We have tested what feels like hundreds of different configuration options, only to find that something always fails to work. Either the smartphones have a functioning WLAN, and the notebooks don’t, or vice versa.

What is the purpose of the Heartbeat setting in Central Wireless if devices without the Sophos app and without a Heartbeat can simply move around in the WLAN? Or conversely, why is it that only a smartphone or only a notebook works at a time?

Does anyone else know of these issues?

Furthermore, the "landing page" doesn't work at all.

P.S.:** We are not using random MAC addresses ;-)

  • Synchronized Security has two different approaches.

    Sync-Sec with Mobile

    Sync-Sec with Endpoint.

Most customers do not mix "iot" with enterprise wireless (WPA Enterprise vs WPA Private).
This means, customers have an SSID for their Mobile device with Endpoint installed (WPA Enterprise + certificate), and SSID for their IOT, BYOD etc. (PSK)

Sync-Sec with Mobile will look into devices based on the Mobile compliance status (Is the device up2date etc.).
Sync-Sec with Endpoint will look at the Heartbeat status.

But most customers want to have the Endpoint status to be on the firewall instead. Therefore they do not use it on the Wireless level - They use it on the IOT level for Mobile, but turn it off for the devices on EP level, so the EP will connect and report their status.
