Zimbra (Postfix - amavisd-new) integration

We are using Zimbra with some antispam success, not as good as we had with Puremessage and Exchange. We still have our license for Puremessage and would like to use it with Zimbra. While a seperate gateway with Puremessage in front of Zimbra is not out of the question, we would like to have Postifx or Amavisd-new call out to Puremessage if possible. This makes both authentication and tagging much easier.

Has anyone done this or can anyone point me to the right documentation to get me started?

Thanks,

  • Okay, no takers.

Can anyone tell me the proper way to get PM listening on the external interfaces instead of localhost? Before I go poking in places. I can figure out how to get Zimbra (Postfix) to use the PM milter if I can get PM to listen on it's external interface.

    Anyone?

    Bueller?

  • Hi GFD,

PureMessage for Exchange will not work with Zimbra.  Your only options would be to either use PureMessage for Unix (PMX), or an Sophos Email Appliance.   An email appliance would have to be a STMP relay before your Zimbra server.  PMX on the other hand can integrate with Postfix, but since it's a thrid party Postfix, I am not sure if you are able to configure milter support in Zimbra.  The email appliance would be by far the easiest setup of the two choices, and it's available as a hardware device or you can an VMWare virtual machine.

    Hope that helps.

    Petr.

  • We were able to get our Exchange License converted to a Unix license and I have Pure Message for Unix  running currently on a Ubuntu vhost.

Pure Message for Unix uses a local copy of Postfix for all mail transfer, both in and out. It communicates through the Postfix milter interface.

Zimbra uses amavisd-new through it's local copy of Postfix using the milter interface.

What I would like to do, is to use the Zimbra postfix milter on machine A, to call the Pure Message milter interface on machine B. I am having trouble figuring out how to change the config of Pure Message so that it listens on a private IP in the 10.0.0.0 network instead of 127.0.0.1.

    Thanks,

  • I have this working quite well in testing. If anyone is interested in running PureMessage in addition to an existing mail service I can post the method once I roll it out to our users.
