SVE for VDI linked clones

Good afternoon

I'm deploying SVE for our VMWare Horizon linked clone VDI environment. Is my understanding correct on the following?

  1. I need an SSVM on each host regardless of expected load.
  2. Guest clients can currently only be configured to connect to one SVM by its IP address.
  3. There is a planned feature in SVE 1.2 to allow a list of SVM to failover through until a connection is made.
  4. The preview release of SVE 1.2 is due out in Feb 18.

If my assumptions are correct then there's currently no support for linked clones which can be created at random on any host in a configured cluster so far as I can see it. Is that correct or is there a workaround?

Many thanks

  • Hello

    1. I need an SSVM on each host regardless of expected load.

No, as long as the SVM is on a network the Guest VMs can connect to, the GVMs can be on a different host. (You can also have multiple SVMs on the same host)

The SVM does not require a license so you can have as little or as many as you like.

    2. Guest clients can currently only be configured to connect to one SVM by its IP address.

    Yes that is correct

    3. There is a planned feature in SVE 1.2 to allow a list of SVM to failover through until a connection is made.

Yes, 1.2 will allow failover to another SVM

    4. The preview release of SVE 1.2 is due out in Feb 18.

We are aiming for Q1, I will post more information in the main pages of Sophos for Virtual Environments nearer the time.

    Thanks
