Upgrading from 5.4.0 to 5.5.2 on SBS 2011

Looking at upgrading Sophos Enterprise Console to 5.5.2 from 5.4 on SBS 2011. However, I am getting the message that "PowerShell 3.x or later required" with the installer. I reviewed online articles about updating PowerShell to 3 for SBS 2011 and they strongly don't recommend it as it breaks SBS functionality.

Your article (community.sophos.com/.../118635) states that SBS 2011 is supported.

Can you advise what actions are required to upgrade?

Hi Raymond,

The article might be outdated as it was last updated before SEC 5.5.2 came out. I would suspect the only options are to update Powershell to version 3+ or upgrade Enterprise Console to 5.5.1 instead of 5.5.2. If you need a copy of 5.5.1 you'll have to reach out to Sophos Support.

Hello Raymond Chin,

I can't even find 118635. The current equivalent is Sophos Enterprise Console System requirements and that is a little bit out-of-date (3 Dec 2019) but it links to Supported Windows platforms and system requirements that refers to Sophos Endpoint and Server Platform Requirements - March 2020 Version 2.xlsx. The spreadsheet shows 5.5.2 supported on SBS 2011 as Upgrade only. The PowerShell requirement is AFAIK nowhere explicitly stated but one of the installer pre-checks.

If installing PowerShell 3 or higher would break your SBS then try to obtain 5.5.1 via Support as MEric has suggested, it's good for another year or so.
