One Share is greyed out in SUM Configure Update Manager/Distribution Tab

I'm in SEC and opened Configure Update Manager of the main SUM server.

Went to the Distribution Tab and then the Update To: section.

The Share window shows 3 sources:

\\IpAddress\SophosUpdate

\\ServerName.company.local\SophosUpdate

\\ServerName\SophosUpdate

The 3rd line is greyed out. Why?

Please note that the 3rd line is used by some remote SUMs as Primary Location for source. Is there any impact to the  remote SUMs?

On the remote SUM side, what source should be used?

\\IpAddress\SophosUpdate

\\ServerName.company.local\SophosUpdate

\\ServerName\SophosUpdate

Or there is no difference?

Appreciate anyone's insights on this.

  • Hello Roy Hernandez,

it is greyed out because it is the default share (\\ServerName\SophosUpdate\) that is present on every SUM, can't be changed, and a SUM deploys all its subscribed products at least to this share. Under the default share is also the Warehouse, the location where a SUM stores what it downloads from Sophos. Child SUMs download from the parent's Warehouse.

Now, \\NetBIOSName\Share, \\FQDN\Share, and \\IP\Share are essentially just different names for the same content. Thus as long as the Warehouse is present it's fine for a child SUM.
The Available pane is populated with shares you explicitly specify or use in an Updating policy. As long as they are just aliases you should not move them to the Update to side - this would cause SUM to deploy the same content to the same location several times.
