Update Manager Migration

Hi All, my EM console is now at 4.0 and using Update Manager. But my server is still Windows Server 2000. I wan to upgrade to 4.5 so i need to upgrade to Windows Server 2003

Since my Sophos server is running as a VM, i did a snapshot and tried an in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2000 to 2003. After this was done, the EM console failed to boot up (The service keeps terminating). So i revert my snapshot and tried the traditonal way.(Installing a new server and migrating settings over, will use same server name so i do not need to reconfigure clients)

The above KB is for EM3. So my question is how do i backup and restore Update Manager settings to new server?

  • Hello ivanvee,

did you visit the Upgrade Center? There's among other things the Sophos Enterprise Console 4 migration guide. It looks pretty complete although from a quick glance I'd say it could be improved. For example it recommends the use of the ExportPrivateStore utility - the utility itself claims it must be run using Sysinternal's psexec and you have to figure out how to do it. The utility itself doesn't tell you that the options must be in a certain order (but if you order them a specified in the manual it works).
