When installing the client, error stating that it cannot remove 3rd party software

I recently set up ESDP on a server, however when trying to deploy the client using the Enterprise Console, I am getting an error saying that the installation failed because it could not remove the 3rd party software.  So what I am having to do is go to each machine, and uninstall Symantec 10, and then deploy using the console.  Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

  • You may want to check if you have Tamper Protection enabled in your product (Symantec, McAfee, Avast! etc). If you do, read http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/35340.html to see what steps you can/need to take to disable Tamper Protection (or Access Protection). The consoles of Symantec, McAfee, etc generally allow you to do this (although it takes some hunting down) through policies. Also, on Symantec machines, CRT does not by default remove LiveUpdate (because you may have other Symantec products using it). So you can extract crt.cfg from data.zip, change 'RemoveUpdateTools' to 1, save the file in the same folder as data.zip (do NOT replace it in the ZIP file - the next update replaces data.zip with the one from Sophos), and presto, it will remove LiveUpdate. If you are using Symantec Client Security 10, but you are not replacing its firewall with the Sophos firewall, change the option RemoveSuites from 0 to 1, and it will remove product suites like Client Security. :-)
