Sophos Endpoint Security and Data Protection Hangs when scan has completed

When started the Task Manager shows one process named "Sophos Endpoint Security and DataControl" running.

The task manager shows two processes named "Sophos Endpoint Security and DataControl" running. When the computer scan process is manually selected the task manager shows " "Scan my computer" in progress - n% completed" (where n is 1>n>=100)

When Scan my computer has finished the task manager shows two processes named "Sophos Endpoint Security and DataControl" running. CPU usage is continuous at 100%. Page file is constant at normal level. Computer is unusable. Leaving it for 12+ hours makes no difference. If one of the processes is killed using End Process in Task Manager both processes end. However the next application that is run graps 100% of CPU and hangs in the same way.

I have tried rootkit scans and Sophos CLI without success.

I have removed Sophos and disabled Windows Defender then reinstalled Sophos. Sophos product information shows HIPS version 3.1.7

Does anyone have any idea what my problem is?

  • Hi,

Are you able to identify the process in task manager; I don't recognise a process having that description.  Almon.exe has the description "Sophos Endpoint Security and Control", Is it Almon.exe?

If so, does the client have the Data Control component enabled?  If you disable this component does the problem go away?

    Thanks
