Sophos Update Manager - how to get it in Enterprise Console

Hello,

Im new in Sophos and dont understand how to install a second update Server on another Server.

I know that i have to share the SumINstall Folder on the local Sophos Server.

And then I can install the Update Server on another Server.

But what happens then?

How I get them into the Enterprise Console by the point Update Manager?

Please help me!

  • Hello Sebastian,

depends on what your "second" server should do and why you want to install it.

Basics: RMS should not be installed on the "another server" (I think the installer complains if it's already installed). If you install from SUMInstallSet RMS is set up so that the newly installed SUM talks to SEC and it will "magically" appear under Update managers. This of course only works if RMS can connect to the management server.

  • Our Company has several locations.

The Sophos Enterprise Console and the first update Source are installed on a server in Ireland.

One company Location is in Germany. here we need an own Update Server.

So whats the right way to realize that?

  • If you want manage your installation (clients and servers) centrally (what kind of connection between the sites? You must have RMS connectivity in this case) then you can set up the secondary SUM as outlined. You probably want to set it's source location to Sophos as in most cases it doesn't make sense to pull the data over your private link. You can also designate the update server as message relay in this case (there are posts on it in this forum).

Although it's an option I assume you don't want the locations to run "their own" management server.
