"Download information from EM Library on 'Server' " emails from Update Manager

Using EM Library we get an email every time a subscription is updated. And a "Warning from EM Library on 'server'" email if there is a problem.

Having upgraded to SEC 4.0 (from 3) we are still getting these emails for our legacy subscriptions but I can't see where to configure Update Manager with the relevant mail server, email address etc details to send the equivalent messages for our new Update Manager subscriptions.

Can someone point me at the relevant documentation please?

Thanks

  • Hi Blossom,

    Welcome to the SophosTalk forums!

Setting up alerts is covered in the Enterprise Console online help topic 'Setting up Alerts' -- here's a link to a pdf version -- you can find it in section 26.2:

    http://www.sophos.com/sophos/docs/eng/manuals/sec_40_heng.pdf

If you think you are ready to remove EM Library, use the following knowledgebase article to help you:

Thanks for posting your question and please come back soon!

    Best regards,

    Lil

  • If I understand Blossom correctly the sought-after function is monitoring the downloads, i.e. notification about successful updates as well as update errors (BTW: I get one of them - Threat detection data ...  or Software update failed) every few hours so "immediate" alerting would be of limited use). SEC alerting covers only retired versions and excessive time since last update (96 being the default). The question is - do you really need the "hearbeat"?

  • Christian is correct - section 26.2 does not explain how to set up the equivalent email alerts to how the EM Library works - ie an email for monitoring all downloads.

If I'm aware of something out there I can pro-actively check if we've rec'd the relevant download yet but the emails are a nice re-active way of keeping tabs on what's going on out there.

The emails also let me know if I need to check our downstream systems for a problem as it sends me emails of the type:

"Warning from EM Library on 'Server' The "\\Server\SophosEM" library deploy task has succeeded, but there were exceptions that might require further attention.
Could not open file "\\someserver\antivirus\InterChk\ESXP\\savxp\sophos anti-virus.msi". INDEX 0x80070020

So do I conclude that this useful email alerting facility isn't available in Update Manager?
