We are currently testing the new device mananger. Most of our machines are 2000. We have a policy that has cd rom as read only, floppy is blocked. Everything works great except:
We get email alerts all the time
Device control failed when checking volume access: device name=\Device\CdRom0, errorCode=0x8000ffff.
We keep getting it sporadically over the day. The accounts have user rights as power user. Trust me they are not using the cdrom.
We want to get an email if someone is trying to write to the cd rom or if they have an illegal USB device but not this messages about device manager failing to check on it.
I hope someone has heard of this before. We don't get them from all computers. Please help.
