Linux Box As Update Source?

I was just wondering if it is at all possible to set up a Linux box as an update source at all?

Hey,
just an idea:
we are mounting the CID from our windows SEC server on a Linux box via CIFS (Samba - "smbmount"). We then export the mounted directory as http source via apache web server.
