Enterprise Console Installation

I am new to Sophos and I am in search of suggestions on how to install and configure the Enterprise Console and Update Managers. I have a single Active Directory domain with three sites (each site is a physical location). My concern is this - our remote sites are connected via WAN links that are oftentimes very congested. I would like to manage and update computers at each site from a server on that site. Therefore, my question what needs to be installed where? Do I need an Enterprise Console at each site or do I need a single Enterprise Console and Update Managers at the other sites? I've read through the documentation and it never really addresses a single domain with multiple sites. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi my friend,

You can create a point of distribution on your remote site.

    Follow this steps:

    1) Create a shared folder in remote location

    2) In permissions, put read to everyone

    3) Go to Enterprise console, right-click in your server and select "View/Edite Configurations" in Update Manager

    4) In the tab Distribution, click on Add and insert the remote address: \\remoteserver\folder

    5) Move it to the right side

    6) Select the remote folder, and click Configure

    7) Insert credentials, to write information over there and OK, OK.

    8) Go to Polices and Duplicate your Updating Police

    9) Select your Remote Address and Insert username and Password to read this folder

    10) Move this Police to the Folder, move Remote machines and e move that machines to this same folder.

    11) Protect that computers

With this your remote computers, will use this folder, to start the instalations and to the Updates.

    Good luck.

    Best regards,

    Mocelim

  • Hi,

The alternative is installing a child Update Manager on the other sites, you can either have them update from the main server or directly from sophos.

Then clients update/install from their local Update Manager source.

  • I have recently upgraded to Enterprise console 4.0. I have been having problems installing The Sophos update manager on a workgroup station that will be used to download directly from sophos and distribute updates to the workstaions at each site.   The workstation is a windows xp and presently have emlibrary intstall and working properly on it however when i try to install the update manager by browsing the the share SUMInstallSet it give the errpr messages  "Erro 2500 7 : The windows API call control service failed. The error  return was 14001"  Having browse the sophos site for the error the solution I found said there r missing files and i should run the file at the bootstrap Location , however when i try this i get the error " windows cant access the file or you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

When I  try to install the update manager from the SUMinstallset on a new windows 2003 server the installation goes through but I dont see the computer in the update manager list hence i can't configure it.
