Wishing to grant all users disinfect rights

Hello all,

This is my first post. I've gone from being unhappy with Sophos being heavy and hard to manage (version 3) to now being pleased with how it works (a now properly set up v4). however, I would like to take the guessing out of whether a cleanup of quarantined items is going to work...Some of my users are admins of their machines (laptop users) and some are simply users (our desktop machines). How can I give quarantine-cleanup permissions to ordinary users (possible if I log on locally, but not practical) from SEC or Windows Active Directory, or otherwise how can I move domain users to the Sophos Power Users group (or equivalent)?

Thanks in advance!

  • I thought that adding a user to one of the more powerful groups would give him more rights in the quarantine manager. I configured SAV to quarantine detected items and ran savtst32 (EICAR). General user had no rights on the item in the quarantine manager. Then I checked (both 7.6 and 9.0) the effect of adding him to one of the other Sophos groups and while the "Sophos rights" changed he still had no rights for the quarantined item.

I'd like to hear from Sophos how it is supposed to work.
