Upgrading Sophos to version 9.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 DataCentre Edtion

Can anyone advise,

We are currently running Sophos 7 / Ent Console 3 on a virtual Windows Server 2008 R2 machine without any issues.

I am now having to upgrade to 9.5 due to the retirement of version 7 but after running the Upgrade Advisor and downloading 4.0 and 4.5 (which I have to apparently install one after the other) I am receiving a message from . 4.0 installer that Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacentre is not supported ?

Is this the case ? Is it just 4.0 that is not compatible ? If 4.5 is ok with Datacentre then can I just install this directly without going to 4.0 first ?

My only other option is to install a 2008 STD VM and re-install from scratch onto that but this is not something I really want to do unless I have no choice.

Any help/ideas appreciated

    Hello SeanPLP,

    the installer is probably right and I wonder how you managed to run SEC3.x on a 2008 R2? AFAIK SEC 4.5 was the first release to support the 2008 R2 family. Guess it's not impossible to get it to upgrade but I want to make sure I understood you correctly.

    4.5 on 2008 R2 is supported.

    You might be able to run the v4.0 in the compatibily mode (right click on the exe and it should give you some options - Might be able to)

    The above would probably be your best option.

    The alternative will envolve some work.

    Upgrading the DB manually via command prompt to v4 first, then to v4.5 (only the db, and you would probably have to remove the v3 console component at one point during this)

    Before you attempt anything - Ensure you have a backup of the Database and the Certificate file so you dont have to reinstall all the machines on the network. (HKLM\Software\Sophos\Certification Manager\CertAuthStore)
