Updating using a folder share.

Hi

We have a boat with around 10 PC's onboard.  Simple network with a server but no Internet connection.  We send them a CD with the latest updates on which they put into each pc and update from it.   

We would like to simplify the process by creating a share on a PC or the server and copying the file from the cd into the share.  This would save the crew onboard going to each machine with the cd in order to update.

When we tried the folder share update we kept getting the copuld not fnd server error.  This was also the case for sharing the cd drive.

Has anyone got any ideas on how we can share the files so that the crew simply have to copy them from 1 CD into a folder.

    another one with ships :smileyvery-happy:- I always thought these things are either fully automatic or have crews with peg legs, patches and sabres.

    Seriously - it should work. The update path on the client has to point to the SAVSCFXP folder on the CID. The first part after the server name has to be the share. Could you (or whoever has to do it) open the location using Explorer? Do not forget the credentials associated with the updating location.

    I can assure you - if set up correctly it works (shared CDs, shared USB sticks). If you need details you can also PM me.
