Scanning mapped drive (Does Sophos download entire file to scan or just a few bytes)

I am trying to understand how Sophos scans mapped drives.

Does it actually use bandwidth to scan the file or it scans it in place? The mapped drive is a cloud drive and I would like to make sure I am not inducing bandwidth charge.

  • Hi Michael,

Full system scans will not scan mapped drives.  Real-time scanning will scan files on the mapped drive as they are opened/written to by the machine accessing it.  When a scan of a file is performed, it is run against the entire file and not just a few bytes of it.

You should only encounter an issue low access files appear to be on your machine but are actually downloaded from Cloud storage providers when accessed. (I forgot the name of this feature)
