Cannot find computers

I've been trying to test Sophos to protect a small workgroup just to get an idea of it.

After installing the Enterprise console I attempted to do a search for computers, non of the search tools (IP address or Network) to find computers on the network work, Both return error messages about lack of privilidges etc.

Avoiding this I decided to import them from a text file, however when attempting to protect said computers, I received this error:

Unspecified error

Followed by enterprise console closing itself. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm using Enterprise Console 4.5 on Windows Server 2008.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

If you create a registry key (looks like a folder) called Trace

    e,g, HKLM\Software\Sophos\Trace (32 bit, adjust for 64bit)

    Download DebugView (http://live.sysinternals.com/Dbgview.exe)

Start up Debug View as Administrator (Right click - Run as administrator)

Turn on "Capture Global Win32" in the capture menu.

Repeat the actions in Enterprise Console.

Are any more meaningful errors logged?

    Thanks,

    Jak

  • Thanks for your reply, but I gave up and just recovered the server from a backup previous to that of installing Sophos.

However my 2nd run at it is going no better!

Install of Enterprise Console etc went fine, installed antivirus on the server, fine.

Did a "Find New Computers" on the network and detected two that were online at the time, attempted to protect them.

One installed fine, another failed with error 80070035, which is explained in detail. Worked my way through the procedure and still nothing, so I decided to disable the firewall on both server and client to see if the install would work, still fails with the same error. I've looked at both services and the firewall, the odd thing is the two client computers are identical installs of windows 7.

Anyway, while trying to solve this problem, I decided to boot up the remaining computers on the network and protect those to see if the install went okay.

Now, when clicking on Find New Computers in Enterprise Console, it returns with an error of "No Domains/Workgroups could be found" for find on network, and Search for computers by IP address has failed, for search by IP.

I'm assuming its a service issue, as I've disabled the firewall for testing purposes.

    Any advice?

  • I had the same problem after upgrading from 3.1 to 4.5.  Solved it by going to Tools -> Manage Roles and Sub-Estates.  On the Manage Roles tab, select Administrator and click 'Edit'.  Add the user that you will specify to carry out the search for new computers.
