reboot required message does not clear on Shutdown of endpoint, only on a reboot. Is this correct behaviour?

Hi.

since upgrading to the latest version of SAV (10.8.2), the SEC is showing reboot required for the endpoints. This is expected, however if the endpoint is shutdown and then powered back up the next day, the reboot message does not disappear. The endpoint has to actually be 'rebooted' for it to get cleared. Is this expected behaviour? I haven't noticed this to be the case in the past.

Thanks.

  • Hello Chris Hurricks,

I assume these are Window 10 endpoints? If Fast Start is enabled the shutdown isn't a complete shutdown and computer doesn't go through the boot sequence at power up.

  • Hi Christian,

    Thanks for this.

So to clarify. These are windows 10.

So if Fast Boot (Fast Start) is enabled, a shutdown (power off) does not perform a complete boot sequence due to the fact Fast Start is enabled, and that a 'reboot' is required to perform the full boot sequence?

    Thanks

    Chris.

  • Hello Chris,

that's correct. Windows Updates force the required reboots, as a reboot isn't an absolute immediate requirement for Sophos updates it isn't forced. An initial install is different as certain features require a reboot to get fully functional but nevertheless a reboot is only "suggested" - a forced reboot might unexpectedly disrupt operation.
