Sophos Endpoint not updating over wireless

We have a windows 7 Laptop on a corporate network protected by SAV.

We we try to update it when on our wireless network it appears to connect to the SEC and pull down updates. I can see the messages in the SEC log and they seem OK. However it is greyed out in SEC and on the endpoint itself SAV processes are running though the updating log shows installation of the Sophos components are all skipped.

However when I connect the endpoint to the wired network and run updates it updates OK, the icon in SEC is green and the updating log on the endpoint shows Sophos components installed successfully.

We have other devices that connect over the wired network and update OK so this is obviously an issue with this endpoint but I am not sure where to check further.

Any advise would be appreciated.

  • Hello Ian Withers,

    it is greyed out
as it is managed it shouldn't be greyed out. Likely it seems to be so when the icon shows the red cross, but the name should still be black. When greyed out the icon has no colored indicator and the name is light grey as well.

    all skipped
is normal for most of the update checks. Installation is skipped when there's nothing new - which is the case except usually three to five times a day. Might be a coincidence that it actually updates on the wired network. More important is whether there are download errors in the local updating log.

If it still shows as disconnected (with the red cross) when on wireless the it apparently can't communicate with the management server - needs access to ports 8192 and 8194. Can't say why just one endpoint should have this issue. First thing I'd check is the Router log (%ProgramData%\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Router\Logs\) from the time it was on wireless.
