Windows 7 Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

We install 270 licenses to our client and was working fine, but we get BSOD on Windows 7 clients, we solve the problem activating Win7 updates, but SOPHOS doesn't tell us why this solve the problem. 

Someone with the same case? or an explanation? Why updating Win7 I can solve BSOD troubles?

  • I have many Windows 7 BSOD with Sophos Endpoint when I use my Dell Precision notebook outside my company LAN. I tested everything (hardware and software) on my notebook and finally I could determine the Sophos fault.

    If I connect my notebook to my home LAN (same Internet provider of my company), my pc very often crashes with a BSOD and I need to restore a previously saved disk image. This occurs using both Ethernet and WiFi connections but it doesn't occur with the notebook isolated from my network. When I go back to my company offices and I connect again to our internal LAN, the Windows 7 BSOD magically disappear.

    This is a behaviour arose in the last 2-3 weeks; before it never happened and we're using Sophos EndPoint since many months. It seems a recent Sophos update causing the problem.

    As told in this post, Windows 7 updates are managed by IT department, thus I have no chance to launch Windows 7 updates on my own. Unfortunately my IT told me I cannot have local Win7 updates activated, so I cannot test the situation described in this post in order to see if this fixes the problem. Anyway I'd like to have a feedback from Sophos too.

  • Hello Massimo,

    your IT department should get in contact with Support as support is through a customer's IT or Sophos Administrator. Do you have any details from the crash(es)?

    I also tried testing the AV scan with an Internet key (different provider) but my pc still crashes with the same bsod.

    I've got the Windows memory.dmp and ntbtlog.txt files but I still haven't had enough time to get tool to read the dump file. With a different analysis I found problem loading fastfat.sys but the file is correct and updated.

    I'm always getting in touch my IT department but I don't know if they'll contact Sophos support. Anyway, yesterday they decided to remove Sophos from my pc and install a different antivirus on my pc. After an all night long test (10 hours), the new AV full scan hasn't raised any problem. I understand this is not the best way to solve the problem but I need to work without constantly worrying about my pc stability and I've already lost too much time.
