Overview
When a user connects their USB device to the OS X client, they are not getting the pop up screen which prompts them to choose the encryption for removable devices.
This article describes the possible reasons why the OS X client does not recognize a USB device.

Reasons why the USB device is not recognized
The following are possible reasons why some use cases will not show the user notification popup:
- The USB devices are formatted to be able to use UEFI tools like rEFlt
- The USB devices are encrypted like Kingston Datatravler Locker G3
- The USB stick already has a SGN structure but from a different SGN backend
- Application based SGN policy is in place
