Sophos Cloud Endpoint: License retention

We are using Sophos Central cloud based service at my work. It works well, but I have a licensing question.

Quick overview of the situation.

We have independent contractors who bring their own laptops in. We get them setup with Sophos cloud client, everything is great. There are times where these people leave the company and take their laptops with them. Unfortunately IT doesn't get to uninstall cloud client prior to the departure most of the time. Each departure occupies a license still after they leave. 

I have tried deleting the users/computers but they will reappear when the client checks back in over the internet.

I reached out to support and was given this as reply:

"Thank you for contacting Sophos Technical Support. Unfortunately, the only way to remove the endpoints and restore the license is to uninstall the program from the endpoint."

Please tell me this isn't true. Does anyone know of any tips/tricks to regain these licenses back, or am I in need to look for AV alternatives at this point?
