Confidential data and free hard disk space necessary

I have been trying Intercept X on a number of computers on our network for the last few days, but some people in my company are really reluctant to using software that sends computer data to the cloud without control.  What type of data does Intercept X send to the cloud? Does it send information about computers or processes in RCA cases?  Is there are information on your website about Sophos Data Recorder? There is a reference to case 125143 in your forum but it is no longer available.

How much free hard disk space is necessary for Intercept X to work normally? After 3 days running it, it has taken up 300 MB in c:\ProgramData. Is there any sort of limit? How long does that data stay on the user’s hard disk? Are all processes monitored from the outset or only those that Intercept X finds suspicious? Is this data sent to the cloud at any time (as part perhaps of an RCA case)?

I‘d really appreciate if you could provide me with some technical information about this aspect if available in any guide or documentation.

Thank you very much

  • The type of data and how Sophos deals with it is described in our EULA.

For Intercept X RCA cases we only send metadata, that is to say information about IP connections, URLs, files, processes and registry changes to Sophos Central ( cloud ) .  We do not transmit any files at all.

Sophos Data Recorder acts in a similar way to an airplane's black box.   It is recording metadata about what is going on with a computer but not the data itself.  For example, it has no knowledge about what was in the data that was written to a file.
