Need a policy applied to a workstation rather than a user, is this possible?

A customer of ours uses laptops for field work which requires them to have a more lenient policy, however for their workstations in the office they need to be bound by the more restrictive ones that others on that network are also using. Multiple users use these field laptops. They basically want users A, B and C to be able to share from the same pool of field laptops with just basic web control and AV, but when those users are on their workstations in the office to comply with the same policy as the rest of that network. Is that possible?

The only workarounds I can think of is placing the users under a "warn" policy for all web filtering and checking for policy compliance based on when they happen to be in the field, but this is not a great solution.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

  • Hi,

I'm afraid at the current time it is not.  Server operating systems can have a per server policy but not for 'client' operating systems.

For it to work the users would have to login to the laptops with a different login to their workstations.

You could ping Support a question if computer based policies is on the road-map.

Interestingly, the free Sophos Home (home.sophos.com) product has computer rather than user based policies.
